Functions of Union Parishad

1. Municipal functions

Functions related to policing and security;

Revenue and general administration functions; And

Developmental functions.

 

The functions mentioned can be broadly divided into two parts. E.g.,

A) Compulsory functions and

B) Optional functions.

A) Compulsory functions

1) To assist and protect the local administration in ensuring law and order in the Union Parishad.

2) taking measures to prevent crime, irregularities and smuggling;

3) Adoption and implementation of development projects in agriculture, forestry, fisheries, education, health, cottage industries, communication, irrigation and flood control;

4) encourage the adoption of family planning methods;

5) development and use of local resources;

6) Providers for the protection and safety of government resources such as roads, pools, canals, dams, telephones and power lines;

7) To review the development activities of various organizations at the union level and to send recommendations to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer;

8) Encouraging the public through negotiations to install hygienic latrines;

            9) Registration of birth, death, blind, beggar and destitute; And conducting all kinds of surveys.

B) Optional functions.

1) Arrange and maintain highways and highways;

2) Maintenance of public spaces, open spaces, gardens and playgrounds for public use;

9) The purpose of maintaining the cleanliness of the union is to ensure hygienic sanitation, conservation of natural resources;

10) To control the garbage collection and disposal system of the area and to keep the roads and ghats clean;

11) to control criminal and harmful business;

12) to remove and control the remains of dead animals;

13) control animal slaughter;

14) Regulation of construction and reconstruction of buildings in the Union;

15) control the building or any risky construction;

16) Maintenance of wells, ponds, dighis, water-pumps and other facilities to ensure water supply;

17) measures to prevent the source of drinking water from becoming infected;

18) Prohibition of use of water from water sources such as wells, ponds and other sources which are harmful to public health;

19) to control near or at the source of drinking water so that it is not used for bathing or other purposes of domestic animals;

20) Paddy, jute or any other plant near a pond or any other water source
